Jake Sisco, SP-MVS: 6 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 6 H, 4 K, 2 BB.
Sisco was the Indians 3rd round pick (#97 overall) out of Merced College in the 2011 draft. The 6'3", 185lb righthander had been drafted by the San Francisco Giants out of high school, but elected to attend college and improve his draft stock. That proved to be a wise move, as he was drafted 34 rounds earlier by the Indians coming out of Merced. Sisco has made three starts for the Scrappers so far this year, going 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA. He's worked 14 innings, allowed 13 hits while striking out 9 and walking 9. Sisco sits in the low-90's with his fastball, and can touch 95. He complements the fastball with a slider, curveball and changeup. He picked up some velocity in the season leading up to the draft, and was a late riser on draft boards throughout baseball. He's not seen as a future ace, but he has an athletic frame and a could be an innings eater in the middle of a major league rotation for a long time. He has to work on locating his fastball a little better, but his secondary offerings are coming along and while he doesn't have an incredibly high ceiling, he's got a pretty high floor as a pitcher.
Jenmar Gomez, SP-COL: W (1-0), 7 IP, R (0 ER), 10 H, 5 K. Gomez had a solid start in his return to AAA, striking out 5 without walking a batter.
Scott Barnes, RP-COL: IP, H, 2 K. Two of the three pitchers that worked for the Clippers on Friday have also pitched for the Indians this year, as Barnes cane in to work the 9th inning in the game started by Jenmar Gomez.
Travis Hafner, DH-COL: 0-3, RBI, K. Hafner was supposed to play in back-to-back games in his rehab assignment this weekend, but Sunday's Clippers game was postponed due to rain.
Jason Donald, SS-COL: 2-4, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB, K. Donald had a good game his last night in AAA, as he was called up to the Indians to replace the injured Lonnie Chisenhall after Friday's game.
Cord Phelps, 2B-COL: 1-7, HR (9), 3 RBI, BB, R, K. Phelps, a AAA all-star, is hitting .263/.347/.440 on the season with 9 HR and 36 RBI.
Russ Canzler, LF-COL: 2-7, HR (10), 2B, 3 RBI, R, 2 K. Another Clipper all-star, Canzler had a big June. He put up a .299/.372/.588 line with 7 HR and 28 RBI in 28 games last month.
Jared Goedert, 3B-COL: 2-4, 2 R, K. Goedert has hit in 8 of his last 10 games, and has put up a .400/.442/.525 line in that timeframe. His overall line for Columbus in 39 AAA games is .279/.331/.476 with 7 HR and 30 RBI.
T.J House, SP-AKR: 6 IP, 4 ER, 8 H, 4 K, BB. House has made 12 starts for the Aeros, and has been mostly good. He's posted a 3.92 ERA in 66 2/3 IP, striking our 41 and walking 24. He's given up just 3 HR, or one about every 22 innings pitched, and Eastern League batters have hit .244 off of him.
Gio Soto, SP-AKR: L (5-5), 5 IP, 3 R (2 ER), 6 H, 4 K, 5 BB. Soto has been solid this season, but in his last three starts he's walked more (12) than he's struck out (9). He should get over it soon, as his numbers on the season are a much more respectable 76 K to 35 BB in 86 IP.
Tyler Sturdevant, RP-AKR: 1 2/3 IP, 2 K. Sturdevant has made 8 appearances between Carolina and Akron, throwing 12 innings, allowing 2 ER and striking out 8 while walking 3. He should be able to make up for lost innings in one of the fall/winter leagues, and could still be a bullpen option for the Indians next year.
Bryce Stowell, RP-AKR: IP, H, K. Stowell had allowed a run in his last three outings prior to Friday night, so it's good to see him run in a scoreless appearance.
Thomas Neal, RF-AKR: 5-12, 2B, 2 RBI, BB, R, 3 K. Neal has a 9-game hitting streak going, during which he's gone 16-31 with 3 HR, 6 doubles, 10 RBI, 5 walks and 10 runs scored. He finished the month of June with a 1.049 OPS, and has been one of the hottest hitters in the system for a while now.
Nick Weglarz, LF-AKR: 3-13, 2 K. Weglarz had almost as good of a month as Neal, finishing June with a 1.040 OPS. His season line is up to .244/.355/.459 with 11 HR and 35 RBI in 61 games for the Aeros.
Chun Chen, 1B-AKR: 4-11, 2B, RBI, R, 4 K. Chen has been on base in 9 of his last 10 games, and has a .368/.457/.553 line over that span. His overall line this season is .321/.406/.436 with 2 HR, 25 doubles and 32 RBI.
Francisco Jimenez, SP-CAR: W (7-5), 6 IP, ER, 3 H, 3 K, 3 BB. In his last 2 starts, Jimenez has thrown 13 innings, allowing 3 ER on 8 hits while striking out 7 and walking 5.
Cole Cook, RP-CAR: S (1), 2 IP, 2 K, BB. Cook earned his first Carolina League save last night, pitching two scoreless innings to close out an 8-3 victory. Cook came on in the 8th with the Mudcats leading 4-3 to pick up the save.
Shawn Armstrong, RP-CAR: 2 IP, ER, 3 H, 4 K, BB. The Carolina League all-star has struck out 17 in his last 14 innings of work for the Mudcats. His season ERA in 39 IP is just 1.85.
Tyler Holt, CF-CAR: 7-13, 3B, 2B, RBI, 2 BB, 6 R, SB, 2 K. After a hot start, Holt's OPS has been steadily dropping throughout the season; from a .884 mark in April to .739 in May to just .489 in June. Hopefully July will turn things around for the Mudcats leadoff hitter.
Tony Wolters, 2B-CAR: 5-14, 2B, 5 RBI, BB, 2 R. Wolters is hitting a solid if unspectacular .300/.349/.375 in his last 10 games, and has raised his season line to .234/.299/.335. Considering he put up just a .390 OPS in April, that's not a terrible line.
Ronny Rodriguez, SS-CAR: 4-14, 2 HR (8), 3 RBI, 3 R, 2 SB, 4 K, CS. The 20-year old SS is hitting .278/.312/.441 with 8 HR and 38 RBI. His 53/10 K/BB number could use some improvement, but his batting average and walk rate are both better than last year's with low-A Lake County.
Anthony Gallas, DH-CAR: 7-13, 4 2B, BB, 2 R, 4 K. The 24-year old Kent State product and Cleveland native is hitting .274/.338/.471 with 6 HR and 27 RBI in 62 games for the Mudcats. He was an undrafted free agent who signed back in 2010.
Bo Greenwell, LF-CAR: 2-8, 2 2B, BB, 2 R, K. Greenwell has played in exactly 10 games for the Mudcats since coming off the DL, and is hitting an impressive .353/.436/.500. He's recorded at least one hit in all but two of his games this season.
Shawn Morimando, SP-LCC: L (2-2), 6 IP, 4 R (3 ER), 5 H, 3 K, 3 BB. Morimando pitched a "complete game" yesterday, throwing all 6 innings of a game that was called early due to weather. The 20-year old southpaw was a 19th round pick in 2011 is 2-2 with a 3.76 ERA in 55 IP for the Captains this year.
Cody Anderson, SP-LCC: 3 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 3 K. Anderson was a Midwest League All-Star this year, and in his last 3 outings has allowed 2 runs on 10 hits in 9 IP, striking out 8 and walking 3. On the season, he has a 3.11 ERA, 54 K and 21 BB in 71 1/3 IP.
Antwonie Hubbard, RP-LCC: W (1-0), 2 IP, ER, 2 H, 2 K, BB. Hubbard picked up his first victory of the season on Saturday in his 4th appearance. The 26th round pick in 2009 had been rehabbing in Arizona, and was activated on June 15. He's thrown 6 innings for the Captains, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 5 and walking 5.
Rob Nixon, RP-LCC: 3 1/3 IP, 2 R (0 ER), 3 H, 3 K, BB. In his last 16 IP, Nixon has allowed just 2 earned runs while striking out 15 and walking 5. Pretty good for a guy who was selected in the 46th round of last June's draft.
Jeff Johnson, RP-LCC: S (12), 2 IP, H, K, BB. The Captains closer has a 4.81 ERA this year, and has struck out an impressive 47 hitters in 33 2/3 innings of work.
Jerrud Sabourin, 1B-LCC: 5-10, K. Sabourin has hit in 8 of his last 10 games, and has put up a .306/.333/.417 line with a HR and 5 RBI in those 10 games.
Jose Ramirez, 2B-LCC: 5-11, 2B, 2 R, SB. All 5 of Ramirez's hits came on Saturday, as he went an impressive 5-5 in a win over the West Michigan Whitecaps. In 9 games since being promoted from Mahoning Valley, Ramirez is hitting .297/.350/.351.
Jordan Smith, LF-LCC: 4-11, 2 2B, RBI, 2 R, K, CS. Smith turned in his best month of the season in June, hitting .337/.413/.467 in 22 games last month. He walked 10 times, and struck out just 8.
Jack Wagoner, RP-MVS: 2 IP, 3 K. Two perfect innings for Wagoner, who's thrown 5 2/3 innings out of the Scrappers bullpen, allowing 1 ER while striking out 5 and walking 5.
Enosil Tejeda, RP-MVS: S (2), IP, K. Tejeda picked up his 2nd save of the season, and has 5 K in 5 1/3 IP. Four of his five outings this year have been scoreless.
Jacob Lee, RP-MVS: 2 2/3 IP, 5 K. Of the 8 batters Lee faced, 5 struck out. He's allowed just 1 earned run this season while striking out 12 and walking one in 7 2/3 IP out of the bullpen for Mahoning Valley.
Ryan Merritt, SP-MVS: W (2-1), 6 IP, 6 H, 4 K, BB. The 16th round pick in 2011, the southpaw Merritt has allowed just 1 earned run in his last 11 innings of work for Mahoning Valley.
Tyler Naquin, CF-MVS: 3-8, 2B, BB, 2 R, 2 K, CS. Naquin has played in 7 games for the Scrappers, and he's hitting .393/.485/.500 while playing an impressive CF. Naquin has been as advertised so far in the New York-Penn League, showcasing a solid hit tool and a plus-plus throwing arm in center.
Joseph Wendle, 3B-MVS: 7-13, 3B, 2B, 4 RBI, BB, 3 R. All Wendle has done is hit. An underslot signing out of a Division II college, Wendle hasn't been intimidated by professional pitching, hitting .355/.417/.484 in his 9 games with the Scrappers.
Matt Packer, SP-AZL: 2 IP, H, 2 K. Packer's rehab continues with his 2nd outing in Arizona. He's thrown 3 innings so far with no problems in the complex league, but obviously has a ways to go.
Jorge Martinez, 3B-AZL: 6-15, 2 HR, 2B, 5 RBI, 5 R, 4 K. Martinez has been the team's top hitter in Arizona, hitting .463/.500/.780 with 3 HR and 10 RBI in his 10 games this season. The 19-year old switch hitter has above-average power potential, but needs to refine his approach at the plate or he'll get exposed by advance pitching. He can hit a fastball a long, long ways though.
