DOWN A NOTCH: Oakland has leapfrogged past the Indians in total home attendance for the season, dropping the Tribe back into 13th place, leading only Tampa Bay in the American League.
SIX FOR SEPTEMBER: Sunday’s win was the Indians’ sixth in the month of September, already surpassing their total for all of August.
ALL-TIME TOTALS: The Indians’ all-time record against the Tigers moved to 1,038-1,071, while their mark against Twins dropped to 377-361.
COLD-COCKED BY CABRERA: Miguel Cabrera hit eight home runs in 18 games against the Indians this season. A year ago, he only homered three times off Cleveland pitchers.
HOMERLESS: The Indians did not hit a home run in the Detroit series.
TWIN KILLING: The Indians lost 12 of the last 16 games they’ve played against the Twins.
NEVER ON SUNDAY: The victory in the finale against the Tigers marked the first time the Indians won on a Sunday since July 1, snapping a string of 10 straight Sundays without a victory.
CLOSING THE WAY THEY STARTED: Tuesday night’s crowd of 10,342 was the smallest to attend a Tribe game since 9,196 showed up on a Monday afternoon on May 7 for the first game of a day/night doubleheader. Tuesday marked the smallest attendance total for a night game since April 24, when 9,137 saw the Indians beat the Royals.
BONUS BASEBALL: Tuesday night brought the Tribe’s first extra-inning game since Aug. 5. Until Thursday, they’d lost their last three games that had gone to extra frames. They now stand at 4-7 beyond regulation on the season.
STILL WINNING THE CLOSE ONES: Incredibly, the Indians are now 22-10 in one-run games. By contrast, in games decided by five runs or more, they’re 10-30.
SEVEN UP: The Indians have scored seven runs in a game four times in the last three weeks. Prior to that, they’d only scored seven runs or more three times in the previous eight weeks.
TRUMPING THE TIGERS: The Tribe finished the season with a winning record against Detroit for the first time since 2008.
BACK TO QUALITY: Sunday’s sterling effort snapped a string of six consecutive outings in which Ubaldo Jimenez failed to notch a quality start.
THREE AND OUT: Sunday was the 14th time this season the Indians won a game in which their opponent scored more than three runs. They now stand at 14-78 on the year in these games.
GO FIGURE: Friday night was Justin Verlander’s first victory over the Indians since Sept. 7 of last season.
ANOTHER GOOSE-EGG: Friday night marked the 10th time this season the Indians have been shut out. They’ve now been held to two runs or less in 50 of their 150 games.
A YEAR AGO: After 150 games in 2011, the Indians stood at 75-75, second place in the AL Central, 12.5 games behind Detroit.
