Myles 2 687x800So there were only two games played in the system yesterday, as the Aeros and Captains were both washed out by the same storm that caused the Indians game to be postponed. Normally I'd skip the ATF recap in this case, but with every player in the Mudcats starting lineup recording a hit in a 12-1 thrashing of Wilmington and the Clippers bullpen combining on a 4-hit shutout last night, there's still plenty to talk about in the organization from yesterday.

Bryson Myles, LF-CAR: 3-5, HR (1), 2B, 5 RBI, 2 R, SB.

Myles was just a triple short of the cycle yesterday, and the home run he launched reportedly hit halfway up the scoreboard in LF at Five County Stadium. He's as hot as anyone in the organization to start off the season, going 6-19 in his five starts for Carolina to post a .421/.500/.684 line. He's driven in 7 runs already, and the speedy LF has swiped a pair of bases. I didn't have Myles ranked as highly as others did on my prospect countdown this spring, and there's nothing I like more than being proven wrong in this fashion. I still have some questions about Myles' eventual ceiling with the bat and if he can hit enough to be a first-division starter in LF, but if he can keep up anything resembling this pace in the Carolina League this season, those questions will have been answered in a big way. Myles is a fundamentally sound hard-working player who is a lot of fun to watch on the diamond, and it's great to see him get off to such a hot start for the Mudcats. He hit .290/.355/.379 with 3 HR for the Captains last year, so it will be interesting to see if Myles can maintain his newfound power in 2013.

Matt Langwell, SP-COL: 3 IP, 2 H, 3 K. Langwell got the spot start in yesterday's bullpen by committee game yesterday, as Clippers starter Corey Kluber was called up to sit and watch the rain fall in Cleveland. He's made three scoreless appearances for the Clip Show this season, allowing two hits and walking two while striking out 5 in 5 2/3 IP.

Scott Barnes, RP-COL: W (1-0), 2 IP, H, K. Barnes followed Langwell, and was awarded the win for his two scoreless frames last night.

Matt Capps, RP-COL: 2 IP, H. Capps has thrown four scoreless innings for the Clippers this year, allowing three hits, one walk and striking out one. He's pretty much ready to pitch in the big leagues should the Indians bullpen find themselves short a righthander at some point this season.

Preston Guilmet, RP-COL: S (1), 1 1/3 IP, 3 K. Dominant outing for Guilmet, who just keeps getting outs everytime the Indians put him on the mound. His stuff isn't overpowering and his delivery is a little unconventional, but you can't argue with the results.

Jeremy Hermida, LF-COL: 1-2, RBI, 2 BB, 2 R, K. Hermida is leading the Clippers in hitting with a .320/.414/.680 line so far this season. He's popped a pair of home runs and driven in 8 runs, showing that he might have a little left in the tank after all.

Cody Anderson, SP-CAR: W (2-0), 5 IP, ER, 5 H, 5 K, 2 BB. In two starts this year, Anderson has allowed two earned runs on 9 hits in 11 innings, striking out 9. He has a big arm with good stuff, and if his arm can handle the strain of starting after relieving in college, he could be a great find for the Indians.

Enosil Tejeda, RP-CAR: IP, H, 2 K. Tejeda has struck out five in his three innings of work this season, and will serve as the Mudcats closer in 2013.

Tyler Naquin, CF-CAR: 3-6, 3B, RBI, R, K. Naquin is 9-26 in 6 games this season, sporting a .346/.393/.577 line with a HR, 3B, 2B and 6 RBI. I obviously don't expect him to slug .577 for the season, but it's encouraging that he's showing a little pop in the pitcher-friendly Carolina League early on this season.

Francisco Lindor, SS-CAR: 3-6, 3B, RBI, 2 R. Lindor has hit in all 6 Mudcat games this season, hitting .458/.519/.667 with 2 triples, a double and 5 stolen bases. He's walked three times and struck out just once in 24 AB.

Tony Wolters, DH-CAR: 2-5, RBI, BB, 2 R, SB, 2 K. Wolters, who is no stranger to slow starts in the Carolina League, opened his 2013 campaign by going hitless in his first 13 at bats. Good to see him get off the schnide yesterday afternoon.

Jordan Smith, RF-CAR: 2-4, 2B, RBI, BB, R. The first multi-hit game of the season for the sweet-swinging lefty raises his average to .208 (5-24). Expect that average to climb about 100 points before the end of the season.

Joe Wendle, 2B-CAR: 2-4, RBI, BB, 2 R. After going hitless in the opener, Wendle has at least one knock in five straight games to push his season line to an impressive .391/.423/.565. He already has three multi-hit games this year, and has collected a half-dozen RBI.

Jake Lowery, C-CAR: 2-4, 3B, RBI, BB, K. Lowery is splitting time between catcher, 1B and DH this year, and it will be interesting to see how and where he gets playing time once Tony Wolters starts catching for the Mudcats. He's 3-10 in three starts for Carolina this season, and ripped his fourth career triple yesterday afternoon.
