(for games from Sunday May 14th through Saturday May 20)
Minor League Player of the Week:
Joe Inglett (SS- Buffalo): .591 avg (13-22), 4 2Bs, 2 HRs, 6 RBIs, 2 stolen bases, 5 walks
After being demoted from Buffalo to Akron a few weeks back, Inglett has taken the re-assignment in stride and his bat has sizzled. For most players, demotions put players in a funk, but this was not your typical demotion. Inglett already has proven he can hit at any level in the minors, as at the start of this season he owned a career .303 average in six seasons in the minors, and he was hitting .321 for Buffalo at the time of his demotion.
But, the reason for his re-assignment was simply to get an extended look at him playing short-stop. His pathway to a big league job with the Indians will be as a utility infielder, and while he has proven to be a solid 2B and outfielder, his ability to handle shortstop is a big key in him getting consideration for a utility job. Currently, he is in the middle of a six week tour of duty in Akron to prove his abilities at shortstop, and to date, all reports have been positive. Offensively, Inglett has proven his case by hitting .533 with a ridiculous 1.427 OPS at Akron. Combined at Akron and Buffalo, he is hitting .431 (50-116) with 4 HRs, 12 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. Defensively, some reports have surfaced that he has handled shortstop well.
Honorable Mention: Franklin Gutierrez (OF- Buffalo), Ryan Goleski (OF- Kinston), Sean Smith (SP- Akron)

Player Notes: If a tree falls in the woods and no one hears it, does it make a sound? That’s our Lake County Captains. Seriously. This might be the worst collection of talent at the A level or higher for the Indians in some years. Absolutely no talent worth going to see or following, aside from maybe a few pitchers like Carlton Smith, Cody Bunkelman and James Deters. Offensively, there is not one person who is major league caliber, although outfielder John Drennen just returned this past week, so he is the one bright spot. Hopefully once the 1st half of the season wraps up in late June we’ll see some changes. The June Amateur Baseball Draft is around the corner, and the short season leagues start soon, so the Captains could get a much needed influx of talent once rosters are re-configured.
Noteworthy Year-to-Date Stats:
James Deters (SP): 2-3, 4.41 ERA, 51 IP, 49 Ks, 1.31 WHIP
Albert Vargas (SP): 4-3, 4.01 ERA, 42.2 IP, 27 Ks, 1.17 WHIP
Carlton Smith (SP): 1-1, 2.61 ERA, 20.2 IP, 16 Ks, 1.16 WHIP
Cody Bunkelman (RP): 1-1, 5.56 ERA, 11.1 IP, 19 Ks, 1.85 WHIP
