FOUR FOR FIVE: Five of the seven pitchers who have started a game for the Indians this season have ERAs over 5.00. Not surprisingly, Indians’ starters as a whole now have a 5.02 ERA for the season, along with a 36-48 record. The Tribe’s relievers, by contrast, are 14-7 with a 3.97 ERA.
ROCK BOTTOM: The Indians hadn’t been swept by the Royals since May of 2006.
ALL-TIME TOTALS: The Indians’ all-time record against the Twins dropped to 374-354, while their mark against the Royals dropped to 300-285.
MORE GOOSE-EGGS: Friday night was the fifth time this season the Indians had been shut out. All five have come since June 9 and four occurred in July.
MORE FRAMES, MORE PROBLEMS: The Indians are now 3-5 in extra-inning games. They hadn’t lost in extra innings since May 8.
TORCHING TOMLIN: Friday night’s eight-run shellacking marked the most runs Josh Tomlin has given up in an outing in his entire career.
ROYAL FLUSH: After sweeping the Royals in their first meeting of the season in Kansas City in April, the Indians have lost seven of the last nine meetings.
SKID TO SIX: This is the Indians’ longest losing streak since dropping seven straight in June of 2010. (Though technically, they straddled a six-game losing streak between 2011 and 2012 - losing the last four games of 2011 and the first two of 2012.)
DEREK’S DONE: In Derek Lowe’s last 10 starts, he was 1-7 with an 8.77 ERA. In his last three starts, he was 0-3 with a 15.89 ERA.
BELIEVE IT OR NOT: The Indians were a combined 23-30 in June and July, which was actually an improvement over last year’s 21-32 June/July mark.
SIPP STEPPING UP: Tony Sipp’s season ERA is now under 5.00, a full four-point improvement since it hit 9.00 in early May.
PATHETIC: Carlos Santana’s two-run homer in the ninth inning of Saturday night’s game was the Indians’ only extra-base hit of their three games in Minnesota.
DOUBLE DIGITS...AGAIN: Saturday was the fifth time in July the Indians allowed 10 or more runs in a game. It’s now happened 10 times this season.
FOUR & ON THE FLOOR: When the Indians allow more than three runs in a game this year, they’re 11-50.
BAD NIGHT: Saturday marked the third time this season Justin Masterson has allowed eight earned runs in an outing. Take those three games away and his season ERA drops from 4.47 to 3.23.
SLUMPING AGAINST THE CENTRAL: The Indians are now 19-22 against AL Central opponents.
LOSING GROUND: The Indians have now failed to win six of their last seven series - losing four and splitting two.
SAME STORY: The Indians have now scored three runs or less in 14 of their last 18 games.
A YEAR AGO: After 105 games in 2011, the Indians stood at 53-52, second place in the AL Central, 2.5 games behind Detroit.
