Finally. A meaningful Heavyweight fight. IBF Heavyweight champ Wladimir Klitschko makes his first title defense against the 29-0 Calvin Brock in a fight that could be the first step in a division unification by the winner. Action starts at 10 PM tonight for FREE on HBO. The Spoon Man checks in with the preview. The big boys are back.

Tonight we finally have a truly meaningful Heavyweight title fight. Live from Madison Square Garden in New York, champion Wladimir Klitschko (46-3) takes on undefeated Calvin Brock (29-0).

The winner of this fight in my eyes will be on their way to unifying the once proud division, which has been in a tailspin since Lennox Lewis retired in 2003.

Wladimir Klitschko and his brother Vitali were supposed to be the future of the sport. Vitali retired for medical reason not long after a hard fought victory with Lewis.  Wladimir then had many questions about his so called glass jaw after losing 2 out of 4 fights in 2003 and 2004.

Enter Hall of Fame trainer Emanuel Steward. He has been in Klitschko’s corner for two years now and the difference is night and day. He uses his jab to perfection now. His stamina is excellent for a big man. The combinations are like jackhammers. He looks to have the motivation needed be champion.

His opponent tonight is no slouch. Calvin Brock is a hard hitter in his own right. He also has a smaller man’s style, throwing good combinations and looking to counterpunch rather than just headhunt.

This will be the biggest fight in both of their careers.

With most Heavyweight fights you would expect a slugfest and an early KO with two heavy hitters. I see the first few rounds to actually look like a boxing match. They’ll feel each other out, look to counterpunch, and try to take advantage of the other mistake.

The key to this fight to me will be the chins of these two warriors.

I have been overly impressed with Wladimir the last two years. He has a different look in his eyes now. I expect nothing different tonight and would be shocked if he was to be defeated. I also expect him to be on his way of being the undisputed Heavyweight Champion very soon.

Tune in tonight to see for yourself.
