Last night in New York at Madison Square Garden, the heavyweight division was front and center. The once popular, now much maligned weight class had its first title unification bout in nine years as Wladimir Klitschko stepped into the squared circle with Sultan Ibragimov.  The result?  A yawner, as Klitschko coasted to an easy win by keeping the overmatched Ibragimov at bay with left jabs.  The Spoon Man recaps the borefest for us. Last night in New York at Madison Square Garden, the heavyweight division was front and center. The once popular, now much maligned weight class had its first title unification bout in nine years as Wladimir Klitschko stepped into the squared circle with Sultan Ibragimov.

Instead of seeing an action packed slugfest, we got a boring lackluster performance from both guys. Klitschko easily won a decision in a fight where we basically used one hand. Refusing to use his right hand for some reason, we basically were provy to 12 rounds of Klitschko keeping Ibragimov at bay with left jabs. When he did decide to throw the right, he was blasting Ibragimov's face.  Afraid of taking punches from his fellow countryman Ibragimov, a noted counter puncher, Klitschko took no risks and used his superior size and strength to coast to an easy win on points that had the crowd booing and begging for action.

Sultan Ibragimov on the other hand was just flat out awful. He couldn't get close to Klitschko at all. The style he normally brings is an aggressive all out fighter. Not in this one. Maybe his game plan was to not get knocked out. He landed less than 100 punches in the twelve round title fight. I don't know too many guys you can beat with that type of output.

Just when people were talking about the heavyweight division possibly being back, we tune in and get let down yet again. Klitschko is the best big man in the world, but when you're boring, people don't want to watch. The crowd was booing every single round and rightfully so. It couldn't have been any worse for the fans expecting fireworks.

How good is Wladimir Klitschko? That's a question we might never know the answer to. I know his left jab is phenomenal. He just won a fight using that punch, and that punch only. When he throws his right, it is like a jackhammer. For some reason, he hasn't thrown it much in his last few fights.

Up next for "Dr. Steelhammer" would probably be the winner of the Samuel Peter vs Oleg Maskaev that takes place on March 8^th. Klitschko has beaten Peter once already who is expected to win against Maskaev. In my opinion, Peter might be the only fighter to have a shot against Klitschko because of his power.

Two huge men fought for the most talked about titles, and gave us a large letdown. The heavyweight division is such a frustrating weight class. We need some excitement from these guys in a bad way. Hopefully some young talent comes along soon, the world of boxing needs it.
