Last night George St. Pierre made his case for best pound for pound fighter in mixed martial arts. Jon Fitch came into his welterweight title fight against Georges St. Pierre on a eight fight winning streak in the UFC. He left the cage wondering if anyone can beat St. Pierre. Fitch was dominated in every aspect of the fight and saw his streak stopped via a five round unanimous decision.

St. Pierre once again made an All-American wrestler look average on the ground. He was able to take Fitch down at will and stuffed all of his takedown attempts. GSP's standup looked even better than before and he had Fitch in trouble and backing up the entire fight.

GSP was never in trouble and looked just as fresh in the fifth round as he did in the first and second. His all around game is second to none and his conditioning is off the charts. With such a great performance over the number one contender, it's hard to imagine anyone at 170 pounds giving him a run for his money.

Back in March of 2006, BJ Penn was defeated by St. Pierre. He has been wanting a rematch ever since. Penn, the current title holder at 155 pounds, was in the octagon after the fight and said they need to make the rematch happen. GSP said he wants to fight the best out there, and there aren't too many fighters better than Penn. Two of the top three fighters in the UFC going at it again? I sure hope it goes down.

The competition at the top of the heavyweight division got a lot bigger last night. A LOT BIGGER. Brock Lesnar is flat out a monster. He beat up Heath Herring for three rounds on his way to his first career UFC victory.

This was another fight that was never in doubt. Lesnar landed a monster shot about ten seconds into the fight and took over from that point on. The wrestling skills of Lesnar were phenomenal and the way he was able to control Herring's body was downright scary. There were times when it looked like Lesnar could go for a submission to end the fight, but he decided not to.

All three judges gave the fight to Brock Lesnar in what was an easy decision. If he can keep growing into a true mma fighter and learn the submission game, the heavyweight division is in a lot of trouble.

There was one fight on the card that had a ton of hype surrounding it. Kenny Florian taking on Roger Huerta had the potential for fight of the year. It came nowhere close to that.

Kenny Florian looked very impressive once again on his way to an easy unanimous decision over Huerta. He used his kick boxing skills to perfection to keep Huerta off balance all fight. The difference in skill level was apparent to me as Huerta wasn't the same fighter we have seen in the past against lesser opponents. 

"Ken-Flo" controlled the fight the entire fifteen minutes and was never in jeopardy of losing the fight. With the win, he climbs back into the title picture in the 155 pound division.

The highlight of the night was the amazing knockout win by Rob Emerson. He knocked Manny Gamburyan out cold just twelve seconds into the fight. A right hand ended the night early and it will be seen on highlight reels for awhile.

In what was billed as one of the best cards of the year, fans ended up with a few fights that weren't even close. We saw dominating performances by some of the top level fighters in the sport. I did walk away from UFC 87 a little disappointed due to the fact that I thought most of the matches would have been more competitive.
