Last night the UFC put together a great card that lived up to the billing. Everything but the main event. Anderson Silva, the mma pound for pound king, didn't look dominant and wasn't too entertaining. His fight with Patrick Cote ended in the third round when Cote blew his knee out and couldn't continue. The undercard, on the other hand, was excellent. And my cousin recaps the entire card for us in his latest.

Last night the UFC put together a great card that lived up to the billing. Everything but the main event.

I saw something that I am not used to seeing. Anderson Silva, the mma pound for pound king, didn't look dominant and wasn't too entertaining. His fight with Patrick Cote ended in the third round when Cote blew his knee out and couldn't continue.

From the opening bell to the end of the fight, not a whole lot happened. Silva looked to be dancing around and throwing his hands around more than fighting. It was just weird. Cote came ready to fight and looked to actually have a chance because of the antics of Silva. Neither fighter landed any big shots in the fight. I am guessing Silva was assuming that Cote would just crumble like all the other fighters he has faced in the past. That's hard to do when hardly any punches are being thrown.

The undercard had some very entertaining and impressive fights, lets take a look at those.

Josh Koscheck vs Thiago Alves

We have ourselves a legit title contender in Alves. He was very impressive in a decision win. Alves has all the tools to hang with any fighter in the welterweight division, even Georges St. Pierre. His striking was on point and his takedown defense won him the battle. Koscheck was very game and hurt badly a few times but to his credit, he kept mixing it up. Alves has been on a roll beating some of the best fighters in the weight class, and he deserves the BJ Penn versus GSP winner.

Gray Maynard vs Rich Clementi

Maynard lived up to his nickname, the Bully. He put on a great display of phenomenal wrestling skills as he won an easy unanimous decision over Clementi. Gray was never in trouble as he continues to climb up the lightweight ladder. Clementi couldn't get any attack going as he was constantly on his back and being thrown around by Maynard.

Sean Sherk vs Tyson Griffin

This was the fight of the night in my opinion. Two great wrestlers and very technical fighters. The pace of this one was excellent and was about as even as you could possible get. Sherk won the decision but I had Griffin taking it. There were a good deal of strikes landed but to me Griffin landed the cleaner and harder shots. It was a back and forth fight, and the decision could have gone either way.

Junior dos Santos vs Fabricio Werdum

Coming into this heavyweight fight, Werdum was considered a title contender. Not anymore. He was brutally knocked out in the first round by one of the best uppercuts you will ever see. It took just one minute and twenty one seconds and was a highlight reel knockout. Welcome to the UFC Junior dos Santos.

The UFC always put together great events, and last night was no different. It was one of the better displays of all around mixed martial arts of the year. The main event was a letdown but I still would pay to see Anderson fight any day of the week.
