Last night in New York City, Joe Calzaghe put on a boxing clinic against Roy Jones Jr. After getting knocked down in the first round, Calzaghe rallied back to win each of the remaining 11 rounds, cruising to a dominating unanimous decision. Calzaghe is now 46-0 and has said that he plans to retire unbeaten. We'll see about that. My cousin recaps last night's pay per view event.

Last night in New York City, Joe Calzaghe put on a boxing clinic against Roy Jones Jr. The fans at Madison Square Garden were treated to two of the best fighters that have come along in some time.

Joe Calzaghe did what he always does after being knocked down by Jones in the very first round. He was able to land a large number of shots using his great hand speed. Jones had no answer for anything after the first round. Calzaghe dominated with just a superior skill level in all phases of the sweet science.

Roy Jones landed a perfect shot half way thru the opening round. Calzaghe was stunned but got up like true champions do. When Jones was unable to finish the fight, Calzaghe just got more confident and knew he wasn't going to be beaten.

Both fighters did way too much showboating in the fight.  They didn't want to be outdone by the other so they made a point to keep dancing around like fools in the ring. I guess when you have had the career these two guys have had, you can do pretty much whatever the hell you want.

The game plan Roy Jones had was pretty bad. He tried to be defensive, hoping Calzaghe would run out of gas. That never happened and Jones was beat up until the final bell. Jones' corner did nothing to help him either. After rounds three Roy's eye started to swell up and they ignored it for the most part. A huge cut was later opened up and it got worse as the fight went on. The cutman seemed lost and you could tell on Roy's face his vision wasn't normal.

I give both fighters a lot of props for this fight. Roy Jones could have easily called it quits knowing how far behind he was on the scorecards and fighting with one eye. Even though he wasn't being too aggressive he still tried to land big shots on occasion and kept coming forward.

Joe Calzaghe showed great skills yet again. In just his second fight on American soil, he beat another legend in the world of boxing. Having Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr. on your resume isn't too shabby.

What is next for both fighters? Hopefully retirement.  Niether guy has anything else left to prove.

Roy Jones Jr. will be forty years old soon and just doesn't have what it takes anymore. He is one of the two best fighters I have seen in the last fifteen years. There is no need for him to stick around.

The same can be said for Joe Calzaghe. He's 46-0 and proved to everyone he is for real. I don't see anyway that he keeps going. There is a true threat out there for him in Chad Dawson and he would be smart to avoid him if he wants to keep that perfect record intact.

Two legends put on a pretty good show for fight fans last night. If it was the last time we get to see them both, thanks for entertaining us all these years and we'll see you in the hall of fame.
