The first two fights were epic, and tonight is the rubber match. Diego Corrales and Jose Luis Castillo look to join Barrera-Morales and Ward-Gatti as being combatants in one of the greatest trilogys in recent boxing history. The Spoon Man is here to preview tonights scrap, which can be seen on Showtime.
If you mixed Christmas and the 4th of July what would you get?
The third edition of Diego “Chico” Corrales (40-3) and Jose Luis Castillo (52-7-1) ... that’s what. The firework show is going to happen a month early and it will be taking place from the Thomas and Mack Center is Las Vegas this Saturday at 9pm.
These two warriors know each other to the very core. Their first encounter was the greatest fight I have ever seen. It was toe to toe non-stop action for the ten rounds it lasted. Corrales won by TKO after getting knocked down twice in the 10th. Before that Castillo was never knocked down in his career. They battled at a feverish pace with no halts in the action.
It was breathtaking.
The second time around the outcome was different but the style and speed of the fight was much of the same. Castillo came in overweight so the fight wasn’t for Corrales’ title. Chico fell victim to a 4th round KO on a perfect punch that landed as clean as you will ever see. He had no chance to continue as he was knocked out cold.
The series is knotted up one to one. Bring on the rubbermatch.
Come Saturday night, there is no reason to think we won’t see more of what we saw in the first two match-ups. Both of these fighters love to throw the leather and know they’re going to get hit to do so. That is why there is so much anticipation for the finale. Two great champions in one ring knowing that the other will do anything it takes to win.
If you like offensive fights, this is the one for you. I am getting goosebumps just thinking about the pace these guys fight at.
If the third installment is half as good as the first, it will be an instant classic. My hope is that this series continues for three more after Saturday.
