This is the first installment of what will be a weekly feature from Swerbs Blurbs movie critic Mitch Cyrus. In it, Mitch previews the movies that are set to hit the theaters each weekend and gives his two cents on what to expect. ~ Swerb
Title: The Pink Panther
Release Date: February 10
Starring: Steve Martin (Clouseau), Kevin Kline (Dreyfus), Jean Reno
Plot: Remake of the famous movies created by Blake Edwards and immortalized by Peter Sellers.
The BeerBuzz: I love the original Blake/Edwards movies, so I had high hopes for this, as I really enjoy Steve Martin when he’s doing some of his good stuff. Unfortunately, this is looking like a Class A SmellFest; pretty typical anymore of almost every remake/sequel. The most telltale sign is that it was supposed to be released last August, but was so poorly pre-screened that Sony is dumping it into the barren wastelands of February.
Title: Firewall
Release Date: February 10
Starring: Harrison Ford, Virginia Madsen, Paul Bettany
Plot: To save his kidnapped family, a security analyst must assist in the robbing of the bank using his systems
The BeerBuzz: Speaking of remakes; haven’t we already seen 75% of this movie with Mel Gibson in “Ransom” and the Old Indy himself in “Air Force One”? Great supporting cast, especially the always excellent Madsen and Bettany, plus Alan Arkin and Robert Forester bodes well. So does the director, Richard Loncraine, who was the director of the exquisite HBO movie “The Gathering Storm” and the second episode of “Band of Brothers”. This will depend upon Ford, who hasn’t had a no-suck movie since the aforementioned “Air Force One”. But at least this one puts him back to where he’s best; a man desperately trying to save his career…er…someone he loves.
Title: Final Destination 3
Release Date: February 10
Starring: A bunch of no-names that work cheap, scream real good, and have no chance of ever being a star.
Plot: Blood, mayhem, and gross deaths after some zit faced loser has a premonition of an amusement park accident.
The BeerBuzz: Let’s just save this one, and watch all three movies on a portable dvd player while standing in line for six hours waiting to get on Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point!
Title: Curious George
Release Date: February 10
Starring: The voices of Will Farrell, Drew Barrymore, and Eugene Levy
Plot: Dorky man with a weird yellow hat illegally brings back a dangerous monkey from Africa, who proceeds to reek havoc in America.
The BeerBuzz: Worst. Animation. Ever.
