It’s week three in college football, and the MAC has nine games on the slate. All games are on Saturday again. There is one conference game with Bowling Green travelling up I-75 to Toledo. And Kent State and Buffalo are on a bye week to prepare for their upcoming Wed. nighter.  The game of the week involves Ball State travelling to Bloomington to take on the Indiana Hoosiers.

The Akron Zips host the Morgan State Bears in what should be another close game. The teams last met at the Infocision opener in 2009, and Akron shut the Bears out 41-0. Last week Morgan State lost to Buffalo 56-34. There are no lines on this game but calculating the spread using Sagarins has Akron winning by 19.

Morgan State is led by QB Seth Higgins (45% completions  for 243 yards and 0 td’s) and/or Robert Council (75% completions for 161 yards and 2 td). Travis Davidson is their leading rusher at 5.1 yards per and 3 touchdowns. And Andrew King has 7 catches for 113 yards and 1 score.

The Zips lost a close game in overtime to Florida International, and continue to show improvement under Terry Bowden. And they should win easily over the Bears again, not as impressively as the last time, but then again a lot has happened since then…

As I said the Game of the Week is Ball State visiting Indiana. Ball State has beaten the Hoosiers in their last two meetings, but go in as 2.5 point dogs. Ball State is coming off a blowout by Clemson, Indiana rolled UMass last week. Indiana played a lot of freshmen and redshirt freshman last year, this year they have more experience. I have Indiana winning this game.

In the one conference game this week, Bowling Green travels 25 miles up I-75 to play Toledo. This is both team’s first conference game. BG hasn’t quite caught up with the big dogs of the MAC, and playing in Toledo, have a tough game. Toledo goes 1-0 in the MAC.

In my upset of the week, Western Michigan travels to Minnesota. Western Michigan rolled Eastern Michigan last week and lost in week one in Illinois and look to be firing on all cylinders.

Ohio travels to Marshall, their old MAC foe. Ohio is another team that has it all together and will have no problem dispatching the Thundering Herd.

Eastern Michigan travels to Purdue for their annual fund raiser. They got decimated by a FCS school last week, let me think about how they will do against Purdue. Hmmmmmm.

Northern Illinois travels to Army, in what could be their biggest loss since Little Big Horn.

Miami travels to Boise State, Miami is NOT ready to play a ranked team.

And then there’s UMass… The Minutemen travel to Ann Arbor to face the Wolverines. WHO’S IDEA WAS THAT???

I'm 21-4 going into this week's games, including an upset of the week (0-2). Tune in Sunday to see how I did. Better yet, reply with your picks for the week. Let's get a competition going on when the conference games start en masse.
