Georgetown Flawless In Rout Of #2 Seeded Buckeyes

The Ohio State Buckeyes surprise season came to a crashing halt on Sunday, as they fell 70-52 to the Georgetown Hoyas in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Most Ohio State fans cringed when they saw the Buckeyes draw, and now everyone knows why.  The Buckeyes struggled all day with the Hoyas height, and had no answer for 7'2 Georgetown center Roy Hibbert, who finished with 20 points and 14 rebounds.

6'10 forward Jeff Green and senior guard Ashanti Cook also gave the Buckeyes problems all day.  Green had 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists.  Cook got off to a hot start and never cooled down, ending with 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Georgetown established the pace early, led by Cook, Hibbert, and 57% shooting in the first half to take a 38-25 lead at the half.  The Buckeyes had one second half run in them, getting it down to a 54-48 deficit at one point, but were then dominated down the stretch as Georgetown created easy basket after easy basket by using their patient Princeton offense to get the ball to their big men in good spots and create high percentage shots.

The loss ended one of the most memorable seasons in Ohio State mens basketball history as the Buckeyes went 26-6 and claimed the Big Ten regular season crown.  The loss also marked the final game for seniors J.J. Sullinger, Je'Kel Foster, Matt Sylvester, and Terence Dials.  Next season, the most talented recruiting class in America will join holdovers Jamar Butler, Ron Lewis, Ivan Harris, and Matt Terwilliger for what should be a very exciting season that should start out with the Buckeyes pretty highly ranked.

Thanks for the great season fellas.  No one expected it, and it provided alot of fun and alot of highs.  I'm already excited for next year.  Deapite the tough loss yesterday ... Buckeye basketball is back.
