Per the Browns flagship radio station, WTAM 1100, the Browns have signed WR Joe Jurevicius. The Browns have a 6 PM press conference scheduled to announce this signing, in addition to the signings of LeCharles Bentley and Kevin Shaffer earlier in the day. Jurevicius is expected to be in attendance.
Jurevicius fills a huge need: a dependable possession reciever. With Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow Jr. both recovering from major injuries, and Antonio Bryant exploring his future career options ... wide reciever was one of the top priorities for Phil Savage in free agency. Jurevicius and the Patriots David Givens were widely regarded as the top two available recievers out there.
In addition to sure hands and great size, Jurevicius is a great character guy, and was born and raised in this area. He attended Lake Catholic high school, and went on to star for Joe Paterno at Penn State. Jurevicius also figures to make for a solid mentor to the rest of the Browns recieving corps, which is young and talented. Jurevicius is also a solid option in the red zone, where the Browns offense has struggled mightily for the past several seasons. Jurevicius scored ten regular season touchdowns for the Seahawks a season ago.
The Browns offense now appears to be pretty much in place for next season. Phil Savage will now turn his attention to the teams defense, looking to provide as much help for the teams front seven as he can before draft day, which also will likely focus on the defense.
