Bellator-66-PosterBellator Fighting Championships brought their top class mixed martial organization to the IX Center last night for a top notch card. There was a lot of top local fighters represented and they came close to filling up all the seats. What seems to always happen to Cleveland fans happened again as most of the home town fighters were beat.

The top local fighter on the bill, Brian Rogers was stunned in the middleweight tournament after having his way for most of the fight. Andreas Spang, a late injury replacement stunned the Cleveland crowd when he landed a picture perfect left hook that sent Rogers down and out in the second round.

Bellator Fighting Championships finally brings its great mixed martial arts to our back yard. Bellator 66 will take place at the IX Center tonight and the card is simply loaded. If you’re a fan of top notch local fighters then you’re going to see the best of the best. Add in an additional top crop of fighters at 155lbs that aren’t from the Cleveland area and you have a fight fan’s dream.

The main event is a rematch of Eddie Alvarez, the former Bellator lightweight champion, and Japanese sensation Shinya Aoki. They fought on New Year’s Eve back in 2008 and Aoki was victorious via heel hook.

UFC 144 is in the book and we have ourselves a new lightweight champion of the world. It was a great night of mixed martial arts action capped off by a dominating performance in the main event.

Benson Henderson dominated Frankie Edgar over five rounds and twenty five minutes to become the new title holder in the 155 pound division.

Henderson was the bigger, stronger, more skilled fighter in every area and used great striking and phenomenal take down defense to take the belt from Edgar. Benson had an answer for everything Frankie tried to do. The scores were 49-46(twice) and 48-47 and I honestly would have had a hard time giving Edgar one round out of the five.

UFC-144-Edgar-Henderson-English-posterLive tonight at 10pm on the east coast UFC 144 takes place in Saitama, Japan. Due to the time difference the fights will be actually be happening  on Sunday morning at the Saitama Super Arena.

Two fights on the card have me jumping for joy. I believe when it’s all said and done, Ben Henderson versus Frankie Edgar and also Joe Lauzon versus Anthony Pettis will be fight of the year candidates. All four of the fighters have extremely well rounded games, like to entertain fans with their exciting styles, and always come prepared. It just so happens that both fights will be in the 155 pound division, the deepest in the UFC.

sonnenbispingx-largeThe second UFC on FOX went down last night and the two main fights went according to plan. That is the UFC’s plan for upcoming fights that the fans will want to see. The more cards the UFC holds, the more questionable decisions we are going to see, and in my opinion we saw a terrible one in the co main event.

The fight in question is the Michael Bisping versus Chael Sonnen to determine who is next in line to contend for Anderson Silva’s middleweight belt.
