I am very excited today to announce that Cleveland State mens basketball coach Gary Waters will be writing a weekly column for us here at The Cleveland Fan. And this is the first installment. Gary has led a remarkable turnaround at CSU, taking the Vikings from 20 losses two years ago to 21 wins and a NIT berth last season. The Cleveland State Vikings open their much-anticipated 2008-2009 NCAA men's basketball season on Saturday, November 15 at the Wolstein Center. CSU and TCF have teamed up to present the "Countdown to Tipoff" Contest to put TCF readers in the best seats on the Vikings' March to Madness. With the start of the season just over two weeks away, Cleveland State has announced the signing of Coach Gary Waters to a new five year contract. The new deal will replace the final three years on Waters' original contract and will keep the head man in Cleveland through at least the 2012-13 season. The Vikes are poised for a big season, returning essentially their whole team from last year's squad. Ryan Aroney talks about the Waters extension and what it means.
