Ole Mansfield is back. Finally. And per usual, goes yard with his latest piece. In it, he takes a close look at the tenure of Phil Savage, and wonders why he gets a free pass from the majority of the fan base despite a miserable track record since coming here. After two years, 30 games, 15 draft choices, tens of millions spent on veteran free agent contracts, and two offensive coordinators, the team is neither any better nor arguably positioned to be better soon based on anything more substantive than hope.

The Drive: Twenty Years Later

Not that you wanted or needed any reminding, but Thursday was the 20th anniversary of "The Drive". It was January 11, 1987 and the Browns were on the cusp of the Super Bowl for the first time in nearly 20 years. They had a star-studded offense led by a thinking man's quarterback, Bernie Kosar. The Broncos hadn't been to a Super Bowl since getting thrashed by the Dallas Cowboys 10 years beforehand. They had a no-name offense, save for Elway, who was a man ahead of his time. We all know the rest. Papa Cass looks back on this sad day for Cleveland sports fans.

Wherefore Art Thou Romeo?

No vote of confidence. Rumors springing up that the Browns plan to secretly woo Jim Tressel and Bill Cowher. If you ask just about any Browns fan, it's not a matter of if Romeo Crennel gets fired. It's a matter of when. In Papa Cass's latest, he says Romeo deserves better than the lame duck status he's been dealt. And that Browns fans are unrealistic if they expect a new coach to ride in on a white horse and provide a quick fix.

Naturally, reports from Tony Grossi and Chris Spielman that Jim Tressel may have an eye on the Browns have created a buzz amongst both Browns and Buckeyes fans. We've run a couple stories saying why we think that it's at least feasible. Gary Benz says he's here to end the nonsense. Jim Tressel isn't going anywhere. And he's about to tell us why.
