October 15, 1973. The 3-1 Cleveland Browns were playing host to the defending Super Bowl champions, the Miami Dolphins. It was Monday night.

Monday Night Football was in its relative infancy. In the four seasons since its Cleveland debut, the weekly outpouring of hype and emotions surrounding the NFL showcase was frenzied, and unforced.

Wrap copyMan! I know one guy who is looking forward to this fall on the lake front! Not necessarily because I know a damn thing about the players the Browns selected on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, but because it sure seems clear to me that the Browns have the smartest guys in the league doing their evaluating and drafting for them. Oh yeah, the Indians are still playing occasionally between rain outs and losing most of the days they play. And the Cavs? Yep, Roker is back in the fold!!

City of Champions!

It’s The Weekend Wrap!

2013 04 browns bark mingoThe Cleveland Browns had an “interesting” weekend during the three-day NFL Draft – and that may be understating things a bit.

Once all seven rounds were completed, the Browns turned their seven draft picks into outsider linebacker Barkevious Mingo, cornerback Leon McFadden, safety Jamoris Slaughter, defensive end Armonty Bryant, offensive tackle Garrett Gilkey and a bucket load of draft picks in the 2014 NFL Draft. And they added veteran wide receiver Davone Bess in a trade with Miami

Haslam PilotThe controversy surrounding Pilot Flying J seems to change by the day. What doesn't is the impact any of it will have on Jimmy Haslam's new toy, the Cleveland Browns. It's the great unknown. Then again, it's the Browns so what's new?

The Browns have nearly cornered the market in unknowns so it's not a huge surprise when it comes to the fortunes of the Browns that a corporate scandal involving the current owner of the Browns barely registers as a significant event anymore. Maybe it should, assuming fans are still interested in seeing the Browns v2.0 actually succeed.

2013 04 nfl draft logoToday is the day that Cleveland Browns fans have been waiting for.

After months of hearing about big boards, fluid hips, short arms, tight ankles, combines, Pro days, 40-yard dash times, game changers, sleepers, and more mock drafts from the likes of Mel Kiper, Todd McShay and Mike Mayock, it is finally time for the NFL Draft.

Heading into tonight's action, the Browns hold the No. 6 pick in the first round, as well as pick Nos. 68, 104, 139, 164, 175 and 227.

This will be the first draft for the team under CEO Joe Banner, the first draft with general manager Mike Lombardi in the building since 1996, and the first draft in franchise history where the owner is facing a federal investigation for his business practices.

In other words, just another day in Cleveland sports.

So what will the Browns do when they finally get on the clock at approximately 9:30 p.m.?

Unlike last year, when it seemed pretty likely that the Browns were going to address their shortcomings on offense in the first few rounds of the draft, the team could go in several directions this weekend.
