DStubbs02The last time our Tribe has won eight games on a road trip was 1998. Really? 1998? That's a long time ago. Like when Jason Kipnis had the first inside the park home run on Wednesday since Jhonny Peralta in 2010. Like, that isn't anything. I remember that.

Do I remember 1998? Heck no, bro. But it looks like we're gonna have to remember it awhile longer, because Indians fell just short of that eight game win mark on Thursday as their road trip game to an end.

INDIANS - 7 | ROYALS - 10

W: Luke Hochevar (2-1)

L: Bryan Shaw (0-2)

S: Greg Holland (19)

[BOXSCORE]

There was the first five innings.

And then there was the rest of the game.

I don't know what it is about five innings with Ubaldo Jimenez this year, but, he's a regular Paul Byrd.

The B-List

The Indians retained sole possession of first place in the A.L. Central by coming from Not Behind to beat to Royals 6-5 behind the clutch Not Hitting of Carlos Santana and Mark Reynolds.  In today’s B-List, Buff notices that Corey Kluber was truly excellent until he truly wasn’t, that Jason Giambi can still hit, that the back end of Cleveland’s bullpen could be better, that Nick Hagadone’s inaccuracy pales in comparison to Tim Collins’, and that more than half of the Tribe’s offensive innings didn’t feature a double play.

ken harrelson swing faceI had my preconceived notions about Ken Harrelson. Even though I was a very young kid when he played for the Indians, there’s plenty of information out there today on the flamboyant ballplayer from the 1960s.

“Hawk”, as he is known (even to himself, in the third person), has freely admitted he is not a modest man. He allows he is egocentric, even. Even today, as the current television voice of the Chicago White Sox, he’s a polarizing figure. Even among White Sox fans.

SwisherIt was the 46th run of the night, but perhaps the single most devastating one for the hometown fans still in the house on Chicago's south side, as Nick Swisher crossed home plate, representing the go-ahead run in Game 2 of the Indians traditional doubleheader with the White Sox that concluded in the early hours of Saturday morning in the Central Time Zone.  It was the former White Sox player's only hit in the night cap, but the fourth in a four-run ninth inning that saw Chicago closer Addison Reed blow his fourth save of the season.

After a rocky first inning for Jose Quintana, things settled down and his offense got him back in the game.  The 24 year-old native of Arjona, Colombia shut the Indians down back on April 12th, to the tune of 1 hit over 7 innings at Progressive Field, then pitched effectively at home on April 24th, earning a win after 5 innings of work.  In the second game played in a day that saw the city's hockey team honored downtown, the Indians got Quintana early, but not often enough.  The Tribe didn't do anything particularly special with their bats, simply stringing together singles from Michael Bourn, Mike Aviles, and Jason Kipnis on their way to a 4-run first inning.

BauerThe number 19 should probably represent Bob Feller when we're talking about Cleveland baseball, but Friday evening's action on the southside of Chicago was drawing comparisons to football scores in Friday's first baseball game of the day.  For the folks looking for something special, this was another one of those sneak peaks of the phenom sent to the Indians organization in off-season, and Trevor Bauer's appearance provided a memorable scene.

If you gave up on the Indians after Bauer failed to get out of the home half of the 1st inning, when the White Sox led 5-0 with at least 17 innings left to play on Friday night, you missed something.  I'm just not certain it was baseball.  Another 25 runs would cross the plate before the brief intermission before a second game, one that Mother Nature was putting in jeopardy.
