Brian HoyerSo much about how one reacts to what was surely a stunning victory by the Cleveland Browns on Sunday depends on how full or empty he tends to look at the perpetually slightly filled glass of water the Browns keep by each fan's night table. On the one hand, who knew that Trent Richardson was such a drag on the team? Conversely, who knew Josh Gordon's presence would give such a boost?

If one is truer than the other, then it would have to be the presence of at least one

2013 09 browns beat vikingsThe Cleveland Browns prevailed on Sunday in the battle of the winless teams, beating the Minnesota Vikings, 31-27.

The Browns pulled out a back-and-forth game that featured plenty of big plays – and bad quarterback play – from both teams, with quarterback Brian Hoyer hitting tight end Jordan Cameron with a seven-yard touchdown pass with 51 seconds left in the game. Those were the only points the Browns scored in the second half and they came at a most-opportune time.

The win breaks a five-game losing streak, dating back to last season, and is the first time this year the Browns were able to turn a halftime lead into a victory.

But more than all that, the Browns hopefully learned an important lesson in the Metrodome: the problems of the offense can no longer be laid solely at the feet of Brandon Weeden and Trent Richardson.

2013 09 browns vikings previewThe Cleveland Browns head to Minneapolis on Sunday to take on the Minnesota Vikings, with each team still looking for its first victory on the season.

The Browns leading rusher on the season will miss the game with a thumb injury and in his place we will see Brian Hoyer make the leap from inactive third-string quarterback to starter.

In typical Browns fashion, the team made more news off the field this past week with the promotion of Hoyer and the trade of starting running back Trent Richardson than it has so far through two games of the season.

It’s been quite a year so far, hasn’t it Browns fans?

TankSo, anything happen with the Browns this week?

Opinions around the league vary wildly on the Trent Richardson trade, much of which (in my opinion) is based upon how many Browns games people have watched the last year and change.  See, Richardson is a big name.  He also is a fantasy darling, as he scored a lot of TD's last year despite being really oridnary in the yards gained and yards per carry categories.  But that was all due to the injuries, see?  This year, he would rip it up.

And when, after 2 games, he didn't, Joe Banner took a deal he couldn't refuse.

Trent Richardson GlassesOut of 10 games to choose from, 2 were of the push variety last week.  Bama super-back TJ Yeldon (unlike all the ordinary backs that have flowed through there as of late) fumbled in the middle of a route and Mini Tebow was able to mount enough a late rally to get A&M within 7, and KC... well, I guess KC is just better than I thought as they won by 1 against the 'Boys.

These 2 push games were the only blemish of the week for DJC and me, as we rode out of town with shiny 5-1 records (the Under was the way to go on the Philly offensive plays, as the 59 they did get against SD was way less than the 99.5 on the line - apparently the revolutionary new offense is mortal after all).

MO wasn't too shabby either with a 3.5-2.5 record (only one push), and BT came in last due to being the only person to think the Eagles would run 100 plays (2.5-3.5).
