All of a sudden, everywhere you turn, there is talk about how Mixed Martial Arts and The Ultimate Fighting Championship should be considered an up and coming sport. That may be true for the non-mainstream fans.  My cousin Scott has been trying to tell people this for years.  Today, he previews tonights pay per view UFC 71 for us ... and the card is LOADED, including a huge main event.

Youngstown's own Kelly "The Ghost" Pavlik beat the snot out of fellow top middleweight contender Edison Miranda last night on the undercard of Jermain Taylor's snoozer of a split decision win over Cory Spinks. Sadly, after Taylors fight, he already started laying the groundwork for weaseling out of a fight with Pavlik, who is rapidly climbling the ranks of the best pound for pound fighters in the sport. As bad as the heavyweight division in boxing has been, the middleweight division has been that good. And tonight, there are two very good middleweight fights on HBO. And one of them involves local product Kelly "The Ghost" Pavlik (pictured) ... who hails from Youngstown. Pavlik is 30-0 and fights Edison Miranda tonight, another top tier middleweight. They are the undercard bout for middleweight king Jermain Taylor's latest defense against Cory Spinks. Assuming Taylor wins, the winner of the Pavlik/Miranda fight is expected to fight Taylor in the fall.

With UFC 71 creeping right around the corner, my cousin Scott (the "FightDr" in our forums) took some time out for us to put together an updated list of his top ten pound for pound fighters in the UFC.
