Browns Browns Archive

AFC NorthThey don’t have to be good, they just have to be better.  Better than their previous selves; well, that’s a given, but more importantly, the Browns need to be better than every team that ever won the AFC North.  Just a friendly reminder, but the Browns aren’t included in that group.  I’m sure no one needs any kind of reminder, friendly or otherwise, to know that this reboot has been brutal in every way imaginable, and has likely exceeded the boundaries of even the most twisted imagination.

I could make excuses, I could say it’s not fair, and I could swear to you that the blue pen is red, but I’d have a hard time convincing anyone that any of it matter when numbers speak volumes.  Low numbers like zero and one stick out the most, high numbers would stick out too, if there were any.  Just seven times in the illustrious first fourteen years of this god-forsaken carnation of the Cleveland Browns netted three wins or more in the division, and that does include the first three years of the new franchise playing 10 intra-division games in the 6-team AFC Central Division

clockMy apologies to the masses out there expecting the usual debonaire satire - life has prevented me from it this week.

2013 11 browns halloweenEric Fischer is an artist, graphic designer and U.S. Navy veteran who has worked in the design field for nearly 20 years. He is currently a creative director for a manufacturing company and also works as a freelance designer in his spare time. He is a life long, unapologetic and die hard Cleveland sports fan.

While he currently lives in Atlanta, Eric was born and raised in Cleveland. And while you may not have heard of him (yet), if you have been to a Cleveland Browns home game this year you’ve seen his work.

When the opposing team has the ball and it is third down, the theme song from the movie Halloween plays over the speakers at First Energy Stadium and an image of Michael Myers in Cleveland Browns face paint flashes on the scoreboard.

Eric designed the image for the Browns and he graciously agreed to sit down for a virtual Q&A about the design process, how he connected with the Browns and a few other topics.

intoleranceWhen now former NBA player Jason Collins revealed that he was a gay athlete last year, it was hard, actually, to appreciate the courage it took. To understand it, no better context exists than the circus that is the Miami Dolphins at the moment.

Richie Incognito, the hulking lineman who seems hell bent on trying to outlive the suggestion his last name would seem to mandate, is a crude, boorish, possible racist with deeply rooted insecurities. He's bullied his way through the NFL at various stops and while his behavior at times has caused a few teammates to just shake their heads, it's always been in the sort of "that's Richie just being Richie" sort of way. His past has been his prologue will no seemingly ill effects.

2013 11 browns bengals previewThe Cleveland Browns head to Cincinnati on Sunday to take on the Bengals. More importantly, the game presents the Browns with the opportunity to truly enter the playoff picture in the AFC.

A win puts the Browns just a half-game behind the Bengals and gives Cleveland a season sweep of Cincinnati, an important tie-breaker in what may be a tight race for the AFC North division title.

The Browns come into the game off a big home win against Baltimore, while the Bengals have lost consecutive overtime games on the road.

Can the Browns win in Cincinnati for the first time since 2008 and sweep the Bengals for the first time since 2002?

Well, that’s the question, isn’t it?
